Flood Control District - The Board of Supervisors will resolve into the Board of Directors of the Yavapai County Flood Control District, and following consideration of this item will reconvene as the Board of Supervisors - Approve out of state travel and costs associated with meals only for Flood Control District Director Dan Cherry to attend a national conference on floodplain management in Kansas City, MO, hosted by the Association of State Floodplain Mangers on April 30th- May 5th, 2017.
 
Brief Explanation of Need
This travel request is for District Director Dan Cherry to attend a multi-day national conference that is being hosted by the Association of State Floodplain Mangers (ASFPM) in Kansas City, Missouri from April 30th-May 5th, 2017. As the Chair of the Arizona Floodplain Management Association (AFMA) and Vice Chair of the conference coordinating committee for the 2018 national conference to be held in Phoenix, AZ, all costs associated with Mr. Cherry’s attendance at this conference are being covered by either ASFPM or AFMA, with the exception of standard per diem meal costs. The Flood Control District requests approval of Mr. Cherry to attend this conference on behalf of the District and AFMA, and agree for the District to cover appropriate meal costs at the County-adopted per diem rates.  Travel (Air and ground est $500), lodging (est $700), and conference registration costs (est. $680) will be covered by others. In return, the District will have the benefits of Yavapai County’s presence at a national conference, education on advancements in the realm of floodplain management on a national level, and a greater voice in the future shaping of collaboration and funding processes between FEMA, other national-level agencies, state/local governments, and other partners in floodplain management.  Costs to the District for meals at the per diem rate are estimated not to exceed $250.00 over the course of the conference. Travel dates are April 30th and May 5th, 2017.
