BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AGENDA-2018
- Approve hire of a temporary Adult Probation Officer Entry position and request waiver of County Policy Section 1.00 with regard to maximum hours and length of assignment for Temporary Employees.
Brief Explanation of Need
Probation Officer Michael Rodriguez will be deploying to Kuwait with his military reserve unit beginning November 29, 2018. A full-time, 40-hour per week probation officer is needed to fill his vacancy for this period, functioning in full capacity to cover the supervision of his caseload. The period of temporary employment would be from November 18, 2018 to November 18, 2019.
County Policy 1.00 limits the number of hours a temporary employee may work to less than 30 hours per week and limits the length of temporary assignment to no more than 6 months. A waiver of the less than 30-hour limit and the 6-month limit is requested.
If approved, whoever fills this position may take a permanent position within the department as a probation officer prior to the expiration of the one-year period requested. Therefore, it is further requested that this request remain in effect for the entire period of one year in the event the temporary position becomes vacant.

Employee Rodriguez' position has been funded for the entire fiscal year. $68,178 covers an entire fiscal year for salary and ERE for a full time permanent employee. Whoever fills his position will be paid out of the same state grant.
