Full-time division Pro-tem A Judge Jeff Paupore is retiring on January 4th, 2019. He worked many years as a prosecutor for the county and as a result, has accumulated the maximum Annual Leave payout. When he was promoted to judge several years ago, he brought a leave balance exceeding 700 hours. His retirement payout will occur on January 18th and he will have 684 hours. At his judicial hourly rate of $71.80, this totals $49,111 for his leave payout. He is currently funded 50 percent by the Superior Court general fund and 50 percent by the Court’s Fill-the-Gap fund (Fund 197).
Based on existing process, the Superior Court would be responsible for the first $5,000.00 of the general fund amount with the remaining amount to be paid from the contingency fund. Typically, special revenue funds (i.e. Fill-the-Gap) would cover the entire amount of the payout based on existing process. This would have a major impact on the Court's Fill-the-Gap fund balance. The Superior Court is requesting the Board of Supervisors cover the 50 percent ($24,556) from the Fill-the-Gap with funds.
